Important Milestones of BABINA Group

1983:

    • Established on 9th November with 3 staff
    • Small-scale BABINA Clinical Laboratory at Rupmahal Tank Supermarket, BT Road, Imphal
    • First Clinical laboratory in the state established by a pathologist

1986:       First Clinical Laboratory in the state to have computerisation of reporting with in-house developed software.

1993:       Moved to a rented building at RIMS Road, Imphal

1994:       Installed our first ultrasound machine (Madison) and expanded to other disciplines

1995:

    • Moved to the New building at RIMS Road (our own)
    • Becomes a Multifarious Diagnostic Centre under one roof with the installation of X-ray, Ultrasound, ECG, etc.

2001:         Installed the first GE single-slice CT scan

2003:

  • First laboratory in the state to implement an advanced Laboratory Information System (LIS) with barcode scanning of samples and a machine LIS interface.
  • First to install Computerised Radiography (CR), GE Centricity CR in the state
  • First Joint venture project at Shillong – Shillong Diagnostic Centre

 2004:       First Laboratory in the country to install the BIO-RAD D10 Haemoglobin Analyser

 2005:       Installation of GE Signa Profile, 0.2 T permanent magnet MRI, first among the private sectors in the state

 2006:       Second Joint Venture project – Lunar Healthcare and Diagnostics, Guwahati, opened

2007:

    • First Laboratory in the state to introduce Immunohistochemistry
    • Third Joint Venture Centre – Maxcare Diagnostic Centre, Kohima
    • First Laboratory in the NE Region to get NABL Accreditation – Sept. 2007
    • Incorporation of Babina Healthcare and Hospitality Industries Pvt. Ltd.

2008:    

    • Installation of Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) – Taqman48
    • Completion of 25 years, the 25th Anniversary (Silver Jubilee)
    • First lab in Eastern India to install Auto Analyser, COBAS 6000
    • First laboratory in the state to install Four-Slice Spiral CT Scanner (TOSHIBA)
    • Introduction of Immunofluorescent Microscopy for the first time in the Northeast

 2009:

    • First Lab in Eastern India to introduce Hain Test (MTb PCR), for tuberculosis
    • Diversified in the Hospitality Sector, opening of The Classic Hotel (November 9), the state’s first 3-star hotel.

2010:

    • Received “Northeast Excellence Award, 2010” from the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in collaboration with the DoNER Ministry
    • Received “Indian Leadership Award for Health Excellence” from All India Achievers’ Foundation
    • Installation of Automated Haematology Analyser, Sysmex XE-2100, the first in the Northeast.

2011:    

    • An online reporting system was made available to the public, the first in the northeast region
    • State’s first Installation of Fibroscan 420 for early detection of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis

 2012:

    • Opening of fully air-conditioned New Babina Diagnostics, Porompat – June 22
    • First Installation of the StreamLab Automation system from Siemens in the country
    • First time in the state- Installation of 1.5T MRI & 128 Slice Cardiac CT
    • Installation of 2 Digital Radiography (DR), Agfa, and GE, the first in the region
    • Installation of DEXA and Mammography machines
    • Installation of BACTEC MGIT 320 for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis & drug sensitivity from liquid culture- first in the Northeast
    • Installation of Prep Stain Slide Processor for liquid-based Pap cytology- first in the Northeast.
    • Incorporation of Babina Hospitalities Private Limited

 2013:

    • Took over the Hotel Imphal and Sendra Park and Resort under the Public-Private Partnership from the government of Manipur
    • Installation of the automated haematology analyser SYSMEX XN-3000, the first in the Northeast

 2014:       Installation of Qiagen Rotor-Gene Q PCR analyser for molecular diagnostics (second PCR unit of the centre)

 2015:    

    • Inauguration of Classic Grande, the first 4-star hotel in the state (November 9)
    • Dhabali received the “NEDFi Award 2015” recognising his entrepreneurial excellence from the Northeast Development Finance Institute (NEDFi), Guwahati

2016:

    • BABINA Diagnostics approved by RNTCP for Culture & DST services for follow-up of MDR patients.
    • Installation of the Ventana Automated Immunohistochemistry system.

2017:       Incorporation of Babina Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. to promote BABINA Speciality Hospital for Oncology

2018:       BABINA Diagnostics featured in the 10 Hi-Tech Diagnostics & Pathology Centres in 2018 by India’s reputed healthcare journal “Insights Care”

 2020:

    • The first comprehensive cancer hospital in the state, AOI-BABINA Speciality Hospital, has been operational since 15 September 2020 in partnership with American Oncology Institute (AOI)
    • First Linear Accelerator (Halcyon) installation in the state, along with PETCT, and Gamma Camera
    • Dr Dhabali received the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver rays” from the Government of Japan for his work to improve India-Japan relations.

2023:   

    • Iodine therapy facility introduced for the first time in the state
    • Laying of the foundation stone for “The Classic Prime”, the first five-star hotel in the state.

2024:  

    • Bone Marrow Transplant started at AOI-BABINA Speciality Hospital, first in the state
    • Inauguration of BABINA Multispecialty Hospital, 4th August

2025:

    • First Renal transplant in BABINA Hospital, 2nd August 2025
    • Opening of a 40-bed capacity Dialysis block with OPD rooms
    • Incorporation of Babina Education Foundation Pvt. Ltd.
    • Opening of BABINA Nursing Institute (BIN),
    • Installation of the Cath lab and the beginning of device closure and open-heart surgery
    • Dhabali received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from MTTS (Mylia Thiruvalluvar Tamil Sangam), Chennai and IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology), Manipur, in recognition of his activities in the Healthcare and Hospitality sectors and contribution to society
    • Dhabali was honoured with the “Governor’s Best Entrepreneur Award” for his entrepreneurial skill and contribution to the state by All Manipur Entrepreneurs’ Association (AMEA), presented by Hon’ble Governor of Manipur Shri A.K. Bhalla.

2026:

    • First ABO-incompatible renal transplant in the hospital, 22nd February 2026
    • BABINA Group directly employs 1350 people and 250 indirectly and is still counting.
    • With more than 150 collection centres across the region, over 3.5 lakh patients receive service from BABINA Diagnostics annually, with millions of tests performed.
    • AOI-BABINA has provided services to more than 47,000 patients across various oncology sub-specialities since its inception.
    • BABINA Multispecialty Hospital has performed satisfactorily despite being in the start-up phase, with important landmark activities.
    • The hospitality sector, despite recurrent law-and-order-related challenges, is able to continue providing services to visitors.
