Academic and Professional Career

Dr. Th. Dhabali Singh was born in Imphal on 1st January 1956. He is the fifth among ten siblings in the family. He had a bright academic career and completed MBBS from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (the erstwhile RMC) in the year 1977. He completed his post-graduation (MD) in Pathology from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1982 (Awarded Silver Medal, highest departmental award and nominated for Katariya Gold Medal for best outgoing Resident). After serving at PGIMER as Senior Resident, he joined Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal as teaching faculty member. Having served for many academically fulfilling years in RIMS, he voluntarily retired from service as Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology in 1994. Since then, he has been working fulltime as Laboratory Director of BABINA Diagnostics (formerly BABINA Diagnostic Centre), Imphal and under his watchful guidance, BABINA Diagnostics grew into one of the biggest and best-equipped medical diagnostic laboratories in Eastern India.

Recognizing the need for diversifying its activities and to exploit the untapped tourism potential of the region, the company BABINA Healthcare and Hospitality Industries Pvt. Ltd. was formed in 2007 with BABINA Diagnostics and The Classic Hotel operating as its separate units, the latter catering exclusively to hospitality sector. BABINA Group of Companies is a conglomerate of BABINA Healthcare & Hospitality Industries Pvt. Ltd., BABINA Hospitalities Pvt. Ltd. and BABINA Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. with activities in healthcare, hospitality and their allied activities. BABINA Oncology and Specialty Hospital is a new unit recently operational providing dedicated cancer care facilities, first of its kind in the state. Working as the Chairman and Managing Director of BABINA Group, Dr. Th. Dhabali Singh, with his dynamism and visionary ideas, has been the driving force behind the Group’s success. At present, the Group employs around 1000 staff, which, needless-to-say, is significant considering the acute unemployment problem in the region.

 

Extracurricular Activities and Personal Life

Dr. Th. Dhabali Singh is actively involved in numerous extracurricular activities and is associated with many organizations. He is a Member of Rotary (worked in different capacities as Secretary, Vice President, President, Director, Chairman of Rotary Club Imphal and District Secretary General and Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3240), Indian Medical Association (Vice President, President, Manipur State Chapter), Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (worked as Secretary, Vice President and President of NE Chapter), Indian Association of Cytologists, NE Diabetes Society. Besides these, he is also Patron Member of Manipur Orthopedic Society, President, Manipur Forum of Pathologists and Microbiologists.

Dr. Th. Dhabali is the Founder President, Manipur Tourism Forum which has been formed with the aim and objective to promote the concept of Tourism in Manipur. He has attended several summits and seminars at the regional, national and international levels at Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati, New Delhi, Dhaka, Yangon, etc. in relation to the promotion of tourism in Manipur. Dr. Dhabali was also President of Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industries. He is also member of various government and non-government organizations and committees.

Happily married to Dr. S. Rita Devi MD, retired Professor, Department of Pharmacology, and director, RIMS, are blessed with three children. The eldest, a daughter, Babina is a Pathologist and one of his sons, Momocha is a Consultant Radiologist. The youngest, Naoba specialized in Hotel Management is presently working as the Director of The Classic group of Hotel.
