Dr. Thangjam Dhabali Singh is the Chairman and Managing Director of the BABINA Group of Companies. He is a Pathologist by profession and was a teaching faculty member of the reputed Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. He voluntarily retired from service when he was serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology, RIMS to work as full-time Laboratory Director of BABINA Diagnostics (formerly BABINA Diagnostic Centre). With his dynamism and visionary ideas, the BABINA Group has become one of the most reputed brands in the region.

BABINA Diagnostics, the flagship unit of the group, is a leading medical diagnostics service provider in the Northeast India. It is a household name and is one of the most trusted brands in healthcare in this part of the country. For a medical diagnostic centre based in a small state of the Northeast India like Manipur, BABINA Diagnostics has come a long way since it was first established by Dr. Th. Dhabali Singh in Imphal way back in the year 1983. Back then, the concept was medical diagnostics was relatively new in the country and in Manipur, it was virtually non-existent. BABINA Diagnostics (formerly BABINA Diagnostic Centre) was the first laboratory in the state to be run by a Pathologist. By the beginning of the nineties, it had already established for itself a name that was synonymous with quality, which was to become its USP over the years to come. The centre, which started as a small clinical laboratory providing basic investigations, has now evolved into a multifarious diagnostic clinic with facilities for a wide range of routine as well as sophisticated tests, along with radiological investigations.

The first laboratory in the Northeast to be accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL), the centre is a household name in the region known for its unwavering commitment to providing prompt, extensive, accurate and reliable diagnostic services. BABINA Diagnostics operates in two different locations, one at RIMS Road, Imphal West and the other, the newer one, at Soibam Leikai, Imphal East, which also serves as the main laboratory. In terms of the range of equipment and facilities available, the diagnostic centre is the largest of its kind in Eastern India and certainly, one of the largest in the entire country. Its services are spread throughout the region through its wide network of collection centres and joint venture units in different states of the Northeast and the neighbouring country of Myanmar.

BABINA Cancer and Super-specialty Hospital in collaboration with American Oncology Institute is an ambitious project of the group that is expected to completely change the healthcare landscape in the region. Spread over an area of 4 acres, the hospital is operational in the suburbs of Imphal East. Envisioned initially as an exclusively Cancer Hospital, the project will cover other super-specialty areas.

Hospitality and other allied activities

The establishment of a 3 Star hotel unit, The Classic Hotel in the state was with a view to exploit the untapped tourism potential of this beautiful state of Manipur. The lack of good hotels in the state had long been a deterrent to attracting tourists but with the establishment of The Classic Hotel, the visitors to the state can now be assured of a truly world class and state-of-the-art hospitality facility. That The Classic Hotel is now the preferred choice for most tourists and officials visiting the state is a clear testimony to its unparalleled services. It will be a spur to the tourism industry which will result in good economic benefits for the entire region in the long run.

Hotel Imphal by The Classic is being managed under PPP model by The Classic Group of Hotels, after it was given a facelift to the erstwhile state-run, Hotel Imphal. With its sprawling campus, the hotel is considered to be one of the finest in Imphal and is another favourite of the visitors. Initially run under a trial PPP model, the performance of the hotel is a clear indicator of the success of this joint venture.

Sendra Park and Resort by The Classic is another project under PPP model and its success is a testimony to the promise of such joint venture activities in other tourism activities.

The Classic Hospitality Training Institute is a premier hospitality training centre in Manipur. The institute runs courses to train and prepare individuals to meet the industry standards as well as to ensure employability in the job market. Certified by Manipal City & Guilds (MCG), under the aegis of Manipal Education (India) and City & Guilds (UK), the institute offers certificate and diploma courses in hospitality operations and food preparation and culinary arts.

The Classic Grande, with its 171 rooms, is the latest addition to the Classic Group of Hotels offering world-class service for different types of visitors. A 4-star category hotel, Classic Grande embodies the warm and rich cultural heritage of Manipur. It is now, a member of Radisson Individual since April 2021.
